What is an RGB LED strip?

An RGB LED strip is a type of light strip that utilizes Red, Green, and Blue (RGB) light-emitting diodes to produce a wide range of colors by combining these three primary colors. RGB LED strips are popular for their versatility in creating vibrant lighting effects and are commonly used in decorative lighting, home accent lighting, and entertainment setups. These strips can be controlled to display different colors and patterns, making them ideal for enhancing ambiance and mood in various settings.

What is the difference between LED and RGB LED lights?

LED lights and RGB LED lights differ in their color capabilities and applications. LED lights emit a single, consistent color, commonly white or warm white, making them ideal for general lighting purposes like residential or commercial lighting. In contrast, RGB LED lights combine red, green, and blue LEDs in a single unit, allowing them to produce a wide range of colors. By adjusting the intensity of each color, RGB LEDs can create vibrant lighting effects, making them perfect for decorative and mood lighting, such as in gaming setups, events, or architectural lighting. Both types of LEDs are energy-efficient and long-lasting, but RGB LEDs offer more versatility in color customization.

How Do RGB Light Strips Work?

RGB light strips are a versatile and colorful lighting solution that uses red, green, and blue LEDs to create a wide spectrum of colors. These strips work by mixing these primary colors in various intensities to produce different hues. Controlled via a remote or app, RGB light strips offer customizable lighting effects for homes and businesses. The key components include an RGB LED array, a controller, and a power supply. When you adjust the settings, the controller changes the brightness of each color, blending them to achieve the desired color and effect.

RGB Color Changing LED Strip Lights

  • Dahlia Series - Colour LED lighting

This RGB LED strip is a 60LED, 5050LED available in indoor and IP68 outdoor versions. Like all our LED strips, the Dahlia RGB Strip is cuttable and one of the best RGB light strips on the market.

These lights can be controlled with our Casambi BLE Controllers or Blebox Wifi Controllers and a 24v power supply. Our 24v strip is preferred by contractors because it is half the current load of the 12v RGB Strip and the fact that we offer this strip in a bulk roll, thereby reducing splicing and joining.

  • Verbena Series - Bright Colour LED lighting

The Verbena Series is the brightest RGB led strip light that we offer. It is a high-density led strip RGB configuration and therefore is ideal for high-output applications

The powerful Osram 2835 RGB LEDs do not only produce a bright light, but also their smallness in size allows a densely populated strip to produce a homogenous (dotless) finish in led channels.

Use these to create an RGB room feature or smart strips and mix colors using our Casambi BLE RGB Controllers or Blebox Wifi RGB Controllers. We have an IP68 version to create outdoor lights, and this Osram RGB LED strip is an excellent quality architectural led strip.

This high-density led strips is available in an IP68 version, so is suitable for outdoor applications. This is a 24v strip but is available at 12v by request.

  • Cosmos Series - Narrow Colour LED lighting

The Cosmos Series RGB flexible led strip is a powerful RGB strip available in a 60led and a 120led version. This color-changing led strip light is a 6mm thin strip and is, therefore, suitable to be installed in very narrow LED channels or edge-lit signs. The Cosmos Series is a 3535 strip.

  • Lantana Series - Sk6712 Addressable Colour LED lighting

The Lantana Series is an RGB individually addressable led strip, meaning that each chipset can be addressed on the PCB. This pixel-led strip runs on 5v and is cuttable between every chip. Our color chasing led strip is available in an indoor version, or IP68 for outdoor color changing led strip lights. Our BleBox Pixelbox can be used to operate this.

Which is better RGB or RGBW?

When choosing between RGB and RGBW, RGBW often emerges as the superior option. RGB (Red, Green, Blue) LEDs blend these three colors to create various hues, making them ideal for vibrant, colorful lighting. However, RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) LEDs include an additional white LED, enhancing brightness and color accuracy. The inclusion of white light provides a pure white option, improving overall illumination and creating more natural and precise colors. For applications requiring both vivid colors and bright white light, RGBW is the better choice.

How do you connect LED strips to RGB?

To connect LED strips to RGB controllers, follow these simple steps:

  1. Identify the Connections: RGB LED strips typically have four wires—Red, Green, Blue, and a common ground. Make sure you have an RGB controller compatible with your LED strip.

  2. Connect Wires: Plug the corresponding wires from your LED strip into the RGB controller. Match the colors: Red to Red, Green to Green, Blue to Blue, and the common ground to the controller’s ground terminal.

  3. Power Up: Connect the power supply to the RGB controller. Ensure the voltage matches the requirements of your LED strip.

  4. Test and Adjust: Turn on the RGB controller and test the LED strip. Use the controller to adjust colors and brightness according to your preference.
