PL55 series diffuser and lens comparison

Selecting a diffuser or lens for your LED profile requires some information on the aesthetics (what will it look like) and the technical performance (what light output does it permit) of the different types of diffuser.

Today we are looking at some of the lens options for the Power Line 55 series of profiles. The lenses tested here fit the following profiles: PL55-FL surface/suspended, DPL55-FL double-sided suspended, RPL55 recessed and RPL55US plaster-in trimless recessed profiles.

We have made use of our high density (180 LEDs/m) White Iris Series Natural White (4000k) LED strip installed in the PL55-FL profile together with the performance optimizing reflectors installed.

The aim of demonstration is show the different effects and readings from the three different PL55 lenses that we offer. There are three types of covers: Opal satin diffuser, Opal prismatic lens and Clear prismatic lens.

As a summary of the detailed reports, you will see that the satin Opal diffuser (8,700 lux) offers the lowest light transmission, followed by the Opal prismatic lens (9,900 lux) and then the Clear prismatic lens (12,800 lux) as the brightest.

If we look at the photo above, we can see that the Opal satin diffuser (center) gives the smoothest spot-free lighting, followed by the Opal prismatic lens (right) and finally the Clear prismatic lens (left).

Using our scientifically measured light output comparison, you can properly select a suitable cover for your profile which will give the best combination of aesthetics and light output to suit your specific application.
